Collaborating Professor of Human Genetics, Biomedicine and Bioethics of the University of West Attica in the School of Health Sciences, Department of Biomedical Sciences.
Graduated in Informatics with applications in Biomedicine, holder of a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Biomedicine and has executed a PhD Thesis in Bioinformatics, Genetics and Proteomics at the University of Athens in collaboration with the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens. He worked then as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Laboratory of Genetics, Department of Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens and afterwards in the Department of Biomedical Science at the University of West Attica.
His research interests focus on Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Analysis, Biotechnology, Evolution, Molecular Biology and Bioethics. In the past, he has been involved in the analysis of human genomic data, detection of new pharmacological targets in several diseases and various viruses that affect humans, correlation of genetic polymorphisms with biological processes and diseases, immunoinformatics, as well as in the design and development of innovative applications in the field of Clinical Genomics. In recent years, his research field has focused on the broader effort to decipher the human genome, through the examples of various autoimmune and rare diseases. In this effort, he has implemented a series of predictive applications based on the analysis of the human genome and are provided for use by the scientific community through the web portal “Chronos Webserver for Clinical Genomics (aua.gr)””.
To date, he has published more than 50 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 678 citations (h-index: 16, i10-index: 24).
